HBO posted a new teaser for its long-awaited first series spin-off from its blockbuster on Thursday. Composed of 10 episodes, it will be broadcast on the platform on August 22.
The long wait for fans is soon coming to an end. Three years after the broadcast of the last episode of Game Of Thrones HBO unveiled this Thursday new images of House of the Dragon, the long-awaited first series derived from its blockbuster. Composed of 10 episodes, it will be broadcast in France on August 22 on OCS.
Worn by the star of Doctor WhoMatt Smith, in the role of Prince Daemon Targaryen but also by Emma D’Arcy (Rhaenyra Targaryen), Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower) and Paddy Considine (Viserys Targaryen), House of the Dragon takes place 200 years before Game Of Thrones.
The series, inspired by the novel by George RR Martin Fire & Blood focuses on the story of House Targaryen, in the days leading up to the civil war called “Dance of the Dragons” and how this royal family fell from grace after years of power. A first teaser was unveiled by HBO last October.
Family war for access to the throne
In this new trailer, we discover one by one the different members of House Targaryen, including Viserys Targaryen I, King of Westeros, and his proclaimed heiress Rhaenyra Targaryen.
These images also hint at the early infighting within the royal family to succeed Viserys Targaryen I to the throne, providing the perfect opportunity for their rivals from Houses Stark, Velaryon and Lannister to go after the true source of power of the family: their dragons.
More spin-off projects from the hit HBO series have been announced. The channel is developing an adaptation of the novel Tales Of Dunk & Eggwhich follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Great, better known by the nickname Dunk, and the young Aegon Targaryen, nicknamed the Egg, his squire.
In another project called 9 Travels, we follow Lord Corlys Velaryon, Lord of the Tides and Lord of House Velaryon. The character played by Steve Toussaint appears in House of the Dragon. A third project called 10.000 Ships features Princess Nymeria, ancestor of House Martell. Its story takes place a millennium before the events told in Game Of Thrones.
These projects derived from Game Of Thrones represent a major challenge for HBO, which has struggled since the end of its blockbuster to find programs with similar strike force. A first spin-off of GoT with Naomi Watts was abandoned, after a pilot deemed unconvincing.
