Hollywood star James Caan dies at the age of 82
He is best known for his role as Sonny Corleone in the classic The Godfather. Actor James Caan died at the age of 82.
“It is with great sadness that we announce that Jimmy passed away on the evening of July 6,” said the family of actor James Caan († 82) in a statement. “We appreciate the love and expressions of condolence and ask that you continue to respect our privacy at this difficult time.”
Oscar nomination for role in «The Godfather»
Caan became known for his roles in the mafia classic “The Godfather” by director Francis Ford Coppola (83), in which he played alongside Marlon Brando (1924-2004) and Al Pacino (82) and for his role as Sonny Corleone received an Oscar and a Grammy nomination.
In 1990 he was seen in the film “Misery”, the film adaptation of the Stephen King novel of the same name, in the leading role of Paul Sheldon alongside Kathy Bates (74).
From 1982 to 1987 James Caan retired completely from Hollywood. The triggers were the death of his sister and his drug problems. James Caan is survived by five children from four marriages. (grb)
