Actress on the witness stand: Heard describes “body search” by Depp

Amber Heard and Johnny Depp have accused each other of domestic violence. In court, the 36-year-old now reports on the beginnings of her “whirlwind romance” – and how Depp is said to have lost control more and more over the course of the relationship.

In the defamation lawsuit she and her ex-husband Johnny Depp are conducting against each other, US actress Amber Heard took the witness stand for the first time on Wednesday in Faifax, Virginia. In her hearing, the 36-year-old described the course of her relationship with Depp, whom she met on the set of their film “The Rum Diaries” in 2009. She also reported on several situations in which the Hollywood star is said to have become violent. Depp didn’t look in Heard’s direction for the entire hearing.

When she met Depp in 2009, she was not a fan, but knew “how famous he was”. Although she was a “no-name actress” and he was “twice her age”, they found each other through books, music and poetry. “It was beautiful,” the 36-year-old recalled. “I felt like this man knew me and saw me in a way no one else had. I felt like he understood me. Being with Johnny made me feel like the most beautiful person in the world World.”

They initially had to hide their “whirlwind romance” in 2012 because the public did not yet know that Depp and his then-wife, Vanessa Paradis, had long since separated. During his filming of “The Lone Ranger” he told her that he had “health problems” and that he did not drink alcohol. She observed him drinking “really a lot of tea”. Only much later did it turn out that Depp often filled spirits in cups to drink secretly.

“Head over heels in love”

Depp got on well with her parents and her younger sister Whitney right away, Heard said. Like herself, the “excessively generous” actor also showered her relatives with gifts. “I think my father would have married him himself if I hadn’t.” He made them feel special. She herself was “head over heels in love”.

Gradually, however, the flawless facade of the 58-year-old crumbled. He has started drinking again and made many nasty comments about her clothes and roles in movies. Heard made her feel like acting was “dirty” and that she was a “whore.” Depp often got angry and “exploded”, smashed furniture and became glasses after her. Sober again, he was cheerful and funny.

When she asked him about the meaning of his “Wino Forever” tattoo, Depp became violent for the first time. Because she thought his answer was a joke, she started laughing. This made him so angry that he punched her in the face several times. “I wish I could say I got up and left the house, but I didn’t,” Heard told jurors. “Then he started crying and apologizing.”

Do pictures prove the beating?

Over time, her ex also became more and more jealous, accusing her of cheating, controlling, pushing and hitting her. He also often stood drunk in front of her door. During arguments, Depp simply disappeared for days – but whenever she decided to end the relationship, he was sober and “particularly nice” and “particularly apologetic” to come back to her and they got along.

The 36-year-old increasingly realized that her boyfriend was not in control. His behavior varied accordingly depending on which drugs he had consumed. “Johnny on speed is very different than Johnny on opiates. And Johnny on opiates is someone different than Adderall and cocaine Johnny,” said the Aquaman actress. Depp didn’t have his alcohol under control either. She described situations in which he vomited while intoxicated and lost control of his bowels. His employees should have washed him. However, she still saw hope in the relationship.

In a fight in 2013, she walked away from Depp during an argument, but that “made it worse.” He grabbed her arm and pushed her to the ground. “I don’t know how many times he slapped me in the face.” The jury was shown a photo of Heard with a bruise on her arm, which she said she sustained as a result of the violence by Depp.

“Body search” against Heard’s will

Heard also described her perspective on an argument during a trip with friends at a trailer park in Hicksville, California. They would have consumed MDMA around the campfire. reported the actress. One of her friends felt the effects of the drug, laid her head on Heard’s shoulder and touched her arm. Depp got angry, grabbed her friend’s wrist and threatened to break it, Heard said. She removed him from the situation and brought him back to the trailer. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star accused her of having an affair with said girlfriend and destroyed the equipment in the caravan. He then tore her clothes and accused Heard of hiding his cocaine from him. As a “body search” he inserted his fingers into her vagina against her will.

She also recalled a trip to Johnny Depp’s private villa in the Bahamas, during which he was upset at having to sell a yacht to author JK Rowling for financial reasons. At some point it was revealed that the actor, who was supposedly teetotal at the time, hid his alcohol in a coffee cup, and his two children, Lily-Rose and Jack, who were present, were particularly angry about his behavior. Depp accused his ex of telling them he was drinking, slammed her against the wall and yelled, “I can fucking kill you!” She later left the island with Lily-Rose.

Heard’s questioning by her attorneys will continue this Thursday. On Tuesday, psychologist Dawn Hughes testified as the first witness for the actress and, citing her patient, reported, among other things, about the actor’s controlling behavior and domestic violence. The psychologist also accused him of sexual abuse: “When Mr. Depp was drunk or high, he threw her on the bed, tore her nightgown and tried to have sex with her,” Hughes said. Depp also forced his ex-wife to have oral sex and inserted a bottle into her vagina against her will.

Actors accuse themselves of violence and lies

The testimonies to the incident in Australia differ widely. Heard accuses her ex of holding her hostage for three days while intoxicated and sexually abusing her. Depp, on the other hand, accuses her of throwing bottles at him during the argument. One of them smashed against the counter he was sitting at and severed the tip of his middle finger. Both his bodyguards and Heard’s nurse have testified that they saw no injuries to Heard after the incident.

Johnny Depp has sued Amber Heard for $50 million over an article she published in the Washington Post in 2018. In it, she claimed to be a victim of domestic violence. She did not mention her ex-husband by name. Depp claims the post nonetheless ruined his career, damaged his reputation and cost him a lot of money as a result. Heard filed a $100 million counterclaim against her ex.

The Hollywood stars got married in 2015, but the marriage only lasted 15 months. Depp lost a defamation lawsuit against the newspaper “The Sun” in Great Britain in 2020. The newspaper had described him in an article as a “wife beater”. Depp denies all allegations of domestic violence.
