Six years after their divorce, Johnny Depp is trying to clear his name after accusations of domestic violence made by his ex-wife Amber Heard. The defamation lawsuit between the two actors in Virginia continues.
After a week’s hiatus, the trial between Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard in Fairfax (Virginia) court resumed Monday, May 16. The actress was back on the stand for a cross-examination led by her ex-husband’s lawyer, Camille Vasquez. The latter took the floor by questioning Amber Heard on the fact that Johnny Depp “has not looked at her once” since the start of the trial. “Not that I noticed, no,” the “Aquaman” actress replied then, as reported “Hello “.
“You know exactly why Mr. Depp isn’t looking at you, don’t you?” added the lawyer. What the actress answered in the affirmative. “He promised you that you would never see his eyes again, right?” After a long breath, Amber Heard finally answered that she did not remember this promise. Camille Vasquez then launched an audio recording dating back to the time when Amber Heard had filed for divorce from Johnny Depp, in 2016. The couple had then found themselves in San Francisco. On Monday, the Court heard the father of Lily-Rose and Jack (22 and 20) say: “I am nothing to you, and I will never be anything to you. We will never see each other again. Do you like looking at my eyes? You will never see my eyes again.”
If Johnny Depp always avoids the gaze of his ex-wife, Amber Heard on the other hand addressed him directly, facing the Court, as reported by AFP: “I have to relive every day, again and again, the most intimate, embarrassing, deeply humiliating and personal things I have experienced. It’s torture, it’s enormous emotional pain,” she said. “I want to move on with my life, but by doing this kind of thing he won’t let me,” she told the jurors, before looking her ex-husband in the eye and begging him: “Let go. keep me quiet”.
Finally the truth about the 7 million donations?
The cross-examination continued with the highlighting of photos showing Amber Heard without any signs of beatings or injuries, a few days after the domestic violence which she says she suffered. The actress was then asked about the donation she had promised to donate to charities after receiving $ 7 million from Johnny Depp, as part of their divorce.
Contrary to what she had said in the press, and during the first trial in London in 2020, Amber Heard confessed not to have fully paid the sum as promised and this, because Johnny Depp dragged her to justice. The actor’s lawyer pointed out that Amber Heard had kept the $7 million in her bank account for many months before her ex-husband sued her for defamation.

As a reminder, the star of the films “Pirates of the Caribbean” attacked his ex-wife for defamation following a column published by the actress in December 2018 in the “Washington Post”. Tribune in which Amber Heard evoked the domestic violence of which she would have been the victim of the hand of her husband, without naming him. Firmly denying having been violent towards his former partner, even claiming that the roles were reversed, the actor claims 50 million dollars in compensation for the damage that these accusations have caused to his career.
For her part, Amber Heard counter-attacked and claimed the double, denouncing the campaign of harassment that she would suffer since their divorce and which would be encouraged by the actor.
