Anna Sorokin (31), the false millionaire heiress, shoots sharply at her parents from prison at the US immigration service ICE. “I’d rather stay in prison than have to live with my parents,” she wrote to the Daily Mail via text message.
Her father, Vadim Sorokin (58), then also spoke up: “Anna wanted to live like Paris Hilton, but we couldn’t offer her that.” He calls his daughter three to four times a week: “Every call always ends with her asking for money. I’ve wired her thousands of dollars in the past. She still hasn’t learned to manage her finances, even in prison.”
Get a taste
When and why Anna Sorokin suddenly took a liking to the rich and beautiful is still a mystery to her father: «Anna has always had expensive tastes, and I don’t know where they came from. Because the people in Eschweiler attach little importance to luxury clothes and the jet set lifestyle.»
Sorokin grew up in Russia, at the age of 16 she moved with her parents to the small town of Eschweiler near Aachen in Germany. In 2013, Anna Sorokin moved to New York. There she pretended to the Big Apple high society that she was the German-born millionaire heiress Anna Delvey. She was able to stay in upscale New York hotels for free and travel around in private jets. In total, she cheated hotels, banks and rich friends out of CHF 257,000, which is why she was imprisoned for two years.
What her father wants for her
According to her father, Anna Sorokin should not be as cold and callous as she is portrayed in the Netflix series “Inventing Anna”. However, he himself has not seen the show about his daughter – and has little interest in it either: “What people have told me is that it should not be very factual – a lot is made up”.
Today, Sorokin’s father would like to have his daughter with him again: “She’s always welcome at home when she’s being deported from America to Germany.” Exactly, that’s what Anna Sorokin wants to avoid. She continues to fight to stay in America. In the end, her father only wants one thing: “I wish for her that she finally finds a place for herself in this world”. (cog)
