Are you allergic to the sun? Here’s what to do if you’re concerned

The weather for the next few days is likely to make people allergic to the sun suffer. How to detect this allergy and how to protect yourself from it? Response items.

With temperatures close to thirty degrees, the urge is irresistible: to expose yourself to the sun. An exhibition that can quickly turn into a disaster by causing allergies. “We just see an urticarial-type rash”, notes Elena Bradatan, pulmonologist-allergist at the CHRSM, Meuse site. Red pimples or patches that may appear all over the body, even on unexposed parts. A disease that is not serious, but can become very unpleasant.

“The person can develop urticaria, deflation, oedema. What is quite annoying is above all the location of this expression at a distance from the exposed area. And also, the itching which is quite significant” , says Elena Bradatan. About 1% of the population would be affected, but what if you are affected? Well, conventional sun protection treatments are not enough.

“Let’s take the example here. It’s a cream with a very high protection factor, it protects very well against the sun’s rays. However, in no case can it protect against an allergic reaction”, explains Esma Abaida, pharmacist.

What works mostly are antihistamines. But this pharmacist also offers these capsules: “It’s nicotinamide. It is vitamin PP that has a repair action”, she explains. Treatments to take before or after exposure. On average, this pharmacist sells it to three people each week: “You have to do a little cure to strengthen, but you are not always immune to having a reaction so it is better to go armed than to do nothing”, she advises.

For these allergy sufferers, the best means of protection is still shade and long-sleeved clothing.
