Barbara Schöneberger in the 90s: TV station unpacks nude scene

Sport1 circulated an old video snippet by Barbara Schöneberger. At that time, the moderator was still posing in front of the camera without a cover.

Today it is the all-purpose weapon of German television. Barbara Schöneberger moderates almost every major award gala in Germany, presents the ESC, has “Do you understand fun?” in 2022. taken over by Guido Cantz and, alongside Günther Jauch and Thomas Gottschalk, is also a ratings maker on RTL.

But would a spectator have remembered this performance? It dates from the early years of her career. In 1998 she was Elmar Hörig’s assistant on the Sat.1 show “Bube, Dame, Hörig”, before switching to sports television. At the age of 25 she prevailed in a casting for the show “Tie Break”. A show that ran on DSF. In 1999 the station was still called that, today it operates under the name Sport1.

“30 Years in the Middle”

And this station is now sharing an old excerpt from “Tie Break” in a compilation of 30 years of station history. Barbara Schöneberger stands bare-breasted on the beach, turns to the camera and smiles: “Adios,” she just says and laughs. Only an overlay of the program title with the note “Next episode: April 22nd” covers her breasts. The scene can be seen in the following video from around minute 0:58.

Barbara Schöneberger has previously appeared in the clip. She greets you in a bikini from the whirlpool and calls out: “right in the middle”. A set piece from the broadcaster’s motto, which has always been at Sport1: “right in the middle instead of just there”. The two-minute video is dedicated to that broadcaster, because Sport1 is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.

DSF started on January 1, 1993, and in 2010 it was renamed Sport1. Nudity has always played a major role at the station, not just since Barbara Schöneberger’s “Tie Break” engagement. For example, the so-called “Sexy Sport Clips” formed part of the core of the brand for the station for years. With the renaming to Sport1, the erotic quiz formats were moved from 11 p.m. to midnight.
