Deborah James is terminally ill. But she shows great strength.
BBC presenter Deborah James (40) has been battling cancer for years. Now she seems to have lost the fight: After many treatments, her colon cancer is no longer curable. The 40-year-old, who also runs a successful podcast, has already said goodbye to her fans and is preparing for her death.
In the video you can learn more about the great honor Queen Elizabeth II gave her with a special title of nobility.
BBC presenter: ‘dying with a big glass of champagne’
“As emotional as everything is, we find so much that makes us smile in all the sadness.” The BBC presenter has come to terms with losing her battle with cancer. But she doesn’t want to give up even in these times. Apparently she still feels enough strength to face her death with a lot of courage: “I always said that I would like to die with a big smile, no regrets and a large glass of champagne.” That is still her intention, she adds.
Deborah James: Emotional posting
In the post, she goes on to describe how “surreal” the past few days have been for her: “I can’t thank you enough for your generosity,” she says of the many donations. So far £5.7 million has been raised. She calls the visit of the future heir to the throne a “very special memory”. On the cover of “The Sun” magazine you can see her beaming at the camera with Prince William. The royal family seems to have a special connection to Deborah Jones anyway. The Queen (96) gave her the title “Lady”. And Prince William visited the terminally ill woman at her home.
Special honor from the British Royals
A great wish to everyone that Deborah James expressed in the last phase of her life: she would like to see the broadest possible support for her cancer research fund. Many donors complied with this request, including Prince William (39) and Duchess Kate (40, née Middleton).
