Billie mania! Tonight, superstar Billie Eilish (20) is performing in Zurich’s Hallenstadion. The US singer (“Bad Guy”) is currently touring Europe as part of her “Happier Than Ever” tour. SonntagsBlick explains the most important and surprising ten facts about the exceptional Californian artist.
1. Self-made star
Billie Eilish was noticed early on with her singing talent. She joined the local church choir when she was eight and began writing her own songs when she was eleven. In autumn 2015, Eilish released her first song “Ocean Eyes” on the Soundcloud platform. The track turned out to be a surprise hit, garnering countless clicks and making the singer an overnight star.
2. Sibling Duo
Billie Eilish’s main collaborator is her brother Finneas O’Connell. Known as Finneas as a successful music producer, he has produced all of his sister’s songs to date. The two recorded Eilish’s debut album at their parents’ home in Los Angeles.
3. Tourette’s disease
Billie Eilish suffers from Tourette Syndrome. Announcing her illness helped her connect better with her fans, Eilish explained in an interview with talk show queen Ellen DeGeneres (64): “I found out that many of my fans have Tourette, and that gave me a feeling of connection to them.”
4. Taboo songs

Billie Eilish won five Grammy Awards in 2020, setting a new record: At the age of 18, in the first year of her nomination, she was the youngest person to date in the four main categories “Best Album”, “Best Recording”, “Best Song”. and “Best Newcomer” honored. She also received the Grammy for Best Pop Album. In June 2021, Eilish, who had previously only appeared in XXL dresses, graced the cover of British “Vogue” dressed in lingerie, breaking her own Instagram record. 8. Passionate vegan
Billie Eilish grew up vegetarian and has been vegan since 2014 – out of love for animals, as she says herself. In 2019, Eilish released a video about the climate crisis together with Hollywood star Woody Harrelson (60), in which she encourages her fans to live vegan for the sake of the planet. “We must do what we can to live more environmentally friendly, like eliminate meat and dairy products from the diet and reduce the use of plastic.”
9. Big Bieber fan
Billie Eilish was madly in love with pop star Justin Bieber (28) when she was twelve. “He was my first love. In my head, he was in love with me, too,” the singer told US radio station KROQ. The two pop stars finally met at the Coachella Festival in 2019 and re-recorded Eilish’s hit “Bad Guy” together that same year.
10. She sleeps in her parents’ bed
In the documentary “Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry”, the singer reveals that she prefers to sleep in bed with her parents. “This is my parents’ bed. I fall asleep here because I’m scared of monsters in my room.” The singer has had trouble sleeping since childhood and often had nightmares. So she slept mostly with her parents until she was eleven. “I couldn’t sleep alone. If I woke up and my parents were out of bed and the lights were off, I would scream until they came to the door.”
