From British prison to the tropical dream island of São Tomé: Boris Becker recovers from the hardships behind bars and goes on vacation. He sends his fans a New Year’s Eve message with a bare chest in front of a sea with gentle waves.
“It’s the last day of the year and I wanted to say a few words to my loved ones and the people who respect me and stood by me in what has been the hardest year of my life,” he begins his message.
Boris Becker: “2022 is over now. Let’s leave it behind”
And further: “Now it’s over and I think I came out stronger than before. I think my mental health is better than before, but I could never have made it without the help and support of so many people.”
With “Thank you, thank you, thank you! 2022 is over now. Let’s put it behind us,” he ends his message.
The reactions are mixed. There are many who wish him only the best in the new year, but also have critical comments. “Honestly – shame on you! A little more humility would do you good! I’m really appalled! Wrap up your greetings and do good instead of going on vacation. Incomprehensible”; writes about a user. “In earnest? Didn’t have any money, went to jail, got out straight away and then vacation on a luxury island?” is another comment.
It had previously become known that Becker had filed a criminal complaint against the ex-wife of footballer Mats Hummels for defamation in public.
