Panettiere was treated for her depression, but said she was still having problems. She became increasingly dependent on alcohol to get through the day. “I never felt like I wanted to harm my child, but I didn’t want to spend any time with her,” the actress said honestly.
With jaundice in the hospital
After Panettiere and Klitschko decided that Kaya should grow up with her dad from now on, the series star’s alcohol consumption continued to increase. Eventually, Panettiere ended up in the hospital with jaundice.
“The doctors told me my liver was going to fail,” she admitted. “I wasn’t a 20-year-old who could just get back on my feet,” she recalled when she hit rock bottom.
Eventually she decided to seek help for her addiction problems. “I put a lot of work into myself and had to be willing to be incredibly honest,” said Panettiere, who has undergone trauma therapy and inpatient treatment for the past year.
“It wasn’t easy and there were a lot of ups and downs,” she said of her journey to sobriety. “But I don’t regret even the ugliest things that have happened to me. I feel incredibly fulfilled. And I feel like I have a second chance.”
The former child star is currently working on his Hollywood career. For the sixth part of “Scream”, Panettiere will slip back into her cult role of Kirby Reed. Hayden Panettiere is also committed to her charity Hoplon, which she founded in March and whose mission is to raise funds for Ukraine.
