LOUD VOICE is the name of the project created by Gabriel “Vehemente” Rodríguez and Kirk “OC Note” Caballeropromising young hip hop duo who met in high school McDaniellocated in Portland, Oregon.
Rodríguez is Chilean-American, while Caballero is of Mexican parents. The Latin and North American mix is a fundamental part of the sound they forged from the beginning, moving quickly between Spanish and English rhymes.
Vehemente has spent much of his life traveling between Portland and Santiago, cities where his relatives reside. In the Chilean capital, the young man got to know a great variety of Latin American music such as Victor Jara, Buena Vista Social Club and Soda Stereo. Here he encountered the golden age of urban music, inspired by artists like Grace Shot, Original Move either Spokesman.
“There is a lot of poetry and depth in the lyrics of Latin American music and a lot of awareness in the Chilean rap movement,” says Rodríguez, also naming Salvaje Decibel, Ana Tijoux, Mente Sabia Cru and Chystemc as his influences. “Considering the cultural difficulties that Chile has had, we have a beautiful musical culture,” he says.
Of all these sounds, Vehemente highlights that Chilean rap “always remains real, both in lyrics and in samples, so I always had to maintain honesty and sincerity when rapping in Alta Vocez, to stay 100% in that line.”
For his part, OC Note is Chicano, the son of Mexican immigrants living first in Orange County, California and currently in Portland, Oregon. Inspired by great artists like J. Cole, Eminem, Dominic Fike and Daft Punk, OC Note he is always looking for ways to expand and improve his art.
“For as long as I can remember the Southern California music scene has amused me. Funk lives throughout Orange County, alongside Chicano, Mexican and rock culture. This influenced my taste in music. From an early age he listened to artists like Linkin Park and Blink-182 but also to Mr. Criminal and cumbias. I just needed resources to express myself musically”Knight noted.
Anyway, that’s just the beginning. For OC Note, the musical creation together with Vehemente has made the duo this “in the same league as my influences like Gera MX, Santa Fe Klan, J Cole and Kendrick.” “Although it will take time for me to show my ability, I am already thinking about how I can improve my skills and music for Alta Vocez”he adds to show that this is just the beginning.
In March 2021, Vehement would go to Portland in order to collaborate musically with OC Note. Her reputation was growing rapidly thanks to her rhymes and her sound within a genre that is advancing very fast. This caught the attention of MyVoiceMusic.org, a non-profit organization that gave them the necessary tools to be able to record their first professional song together with the producer. Luke Hallwho has already accumulated more than 15 years of career.
“Working with Luke has not only been a fun time full of jokes and laughs, but he is also a very helpful friend who has grown up with Alta Vocez and understands what we are looking for in our music”, they say from the duo. And it is that the work of the producer gave them a very mature and well-executed sound, something essential to take the biggest step.”
“Luke is amazing at his job and uses his musical knowledge and intelligence to guide and amplify our work. His work ethic of his is admirable and is actually a big part of this EP!”sentence the rappers.
This process would become “Raíces”, the track chosen by the duo to launch their career internationally. That would be the starting point from which his EP would grow, which has five original songs that will be available from this May 13 on all digital platforms.
