Departure from Kitzbühel: Ice cold: “Terminator” made Gabalier wait in short leather pants

In contrast to the first descent on Friday, the traditional Hahnenkamm descent on Saturday featured a noticeably high density of celebrities. Among others, Kitz Society leader Arnold Schwarzenegger, “Volks Rock’n’Roller” Andreas Gabalier, DJ Ötzi, Franz Klammer, Karl Schranz, Lindsey Vonn and some high-ranking politicians could be seen.

This time, unlike in 2020, when Kitz was last in full mode, “Arnie” did not step early from the “Rasmushof” near the finish area in the direction of the grandstand, but was about five minutes late. He made his appearance near the media area in a flurry of flashbulbs, before taking his previously vacant place of honor accompanied by his girlfriend Heather Milligan, daughter Christina and the model Barbara Meier and her husband Klemens Hallmann. As an outfit, the former governor of California chose the popular traditional loden jacket including a hat.

Numerous politicians were already sitting in the grandstand, for example: Minister of Agriculture Norbert Totschnig, Minister of Defense Klaudia Tanner or, as on Friday, Governor of Tyrol Anton Mattle and Minister for Security Astrid Mair (all ÖVP). The mood in this celebrity-politician realm really got going for the first time when the winner of Friday’s first descent, Vincent Kriechmayr, smashed down the Streif. Gabalier, standing and wearing only leather trousers, was also enthusiastic.

DJ Ötzi, the Austrian entrepreneur and investor Florian Gschwandtner and the real estate entrepreneur René Benko sat outside of this area. The former showed himself to be very familiar with his own songs, playing his version of “Sweet Caroline” in the finish area with a lot of singing and physical effort and generally in the best party mood.

A few meters away, “Arnie” remained rather stoic for the time being. However, this changed with Aleksander Aamodt Kilde’s victory at the latest. Then the “governor” could no longer be held back. When the Norwegian finished his victory run, the “Styrian Oak” put on her well-known, widest Steirerman smile and toasted with a mug in the direction of the finish area, cameras and the Norwegian.
