DSDS is one of the most famous and longest TV productions in Germany. In this year’s 19th season, however, one low rate seems to be chasing the next – despite scandal candidate and hit star Florian Silbereisen.

Cologne – After a few jury changes and the expulsion of pop titan Dieter Bohlen (68) last year, the RTL production “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” (DSDS) continues to fight for its survival in the German TV landscape. With the new jury around hit star Florian Silbereisen (40) – who initially worked as a guest judge, but is now full-time, the broadcaster hoped for a restart of the DSDS brand.

But there seems to be no success. After the weak start to the season, one rating low follows the other.* reports.

Physical injury and probation – scandal candidate at DSDS

The number of viewers in the history of the talent show has never been as low as it was at the start of this year’s DSDS edition. Only 2.65 million people watched the first casting edition of 2022. For comparison: a year ago it was 3.25 million, in 2019 the show was even over the four million mark.

And that despite a real scandal behind the scenes of the casting show. Because rapper and DSDS candidate Mechito (27) is currently on probation for serious bodily harm. “We got to know Mechito as a very talented young man who touched us very much with his story,” said Florian Silbereisen. But according to the hit star, the actions of the 27-year-old must have consequences – “Violence does not fit the new DSDS,” said Silbereisen and said goodbye to Mechito from the show.

DSDS with Florian Silbereisen cannot convince

Despite this scandal and the lack of competition, in addition to the poor ratings of the first episode, the following editions of the 19th season were also not convincing. There is a steady downward trend within the DSDS episodes broadcast in January. On January 22nd, 2.65 million people watched RTL, on February 1st it was only 2.27 million.

Only the fifth episode of the casting show – which was shown on February 5th – was able to record an upward trend with 2.5 million viewers. At least a plus – even if the numbers remain well below the previous DSDS quotas. * is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
