The trailer for this film devoted to the former Minister of Health at the origin of the decriminalization of abortion was unveiled on Monday.
The film Simone – The Journey of the Centurybiopic dedicated to Simone Veil, will be released this fall after many postponements due to the pandemic. A first trailer for this project initiated by Elsa Zylberstein was unveiled on Monday.
Presented as an “epic and intimate portrait of Simone Veil”, this biopic is directed by Olivier Dahan. A specialist in the genre, he has already retraced the life of Edith Piaf on the big screen (role which won an Oscar for Marion Cotillard) in The kidthen that of Grace Kelly (Nicole Kidman) in Grace of Monaco.
“A movie like [Simone – Le Voyage du siècle] only makes sense if it talks about today, “says Olivier Dahan to BFMTV. “It was the message that interested me. She did things that changed people’s lives. I’m not just talking about abortion, spectacular things. She created childminder positions, things like that. It’s very concrete. As we make a film about a person who has changed people’s lives, it has to talk about people’s lives.”
Third biopic on Simone Veil
Olivier Dahan wrote the feature film with the journalist from World Vanessa Schneider, author of a book on the actress Maria Schneider. Three actresses, including Rebecca Marder and Elsa Zylberstein, will play Simone Veil at different ages in her life. The rest of the cast is made up of Elodie Bouchez, Olivier Gourmet, Judith Chemla, Philippe Torreton, Philippe Lellouche and Sylvie Testud.
This is the third biopic on Simone Veil. Before Elsa Zylberstein, Simone Veil was played by Marina Foïs in the short film Men will remember (2006) and Emmanuelle Devos in the TV movie The law (2014). Died on June 20, 2017, Simone Veil entered the Pantheon with her husband on July 1, 2018.
