Electricity: calls for energy sobriety are still effective. Electricity consumption continues to decline. Moreover, the President of the Energy Regulation Commission does not anticipate any risk of load shedding during the next two weeks. Good news for the French. Don’t worry, Objeko’s editorial staff will tell you everything about it. Are you ready ?

A decrease of 7.4% compared to the average of previous years

Since the arrival of winter, the French have been afraid. Fear in particular of no longer having electricity for a certain period. It must be said that the risks of cuts are not to be avoided. Indeed, the President of the Energy Regulation Commission continues to warn metropolitans. It is in particular the beginning of the year 2023, which is in the viewfinder: “As there have been delays at EDF, we have a form of concern or vigilance for January”.

Electricity: but the concern is in the process to give way to hope. Indeed, energy sobriety continues to bear fruit. According to data from the electricity network operator RTE published a few days ago, electricity consumption continues to fall in France. And not just a little. There is a decline of 7.4% compared to the average of previous years (2014-2019). Which means the threat of power cuts is receding. For a few weeks at least.

No risk of power cuts at the moment

PUBLICITY

As we told you previously, there is no risk of power outages at this time. Until January 15, there will be no difficulty in covering the needs of the population, but also of electricity companies. However, the French are not immune: “Afterwards, if there is a cold snap, the situation will inevitably be more tense”. But for the moment, on this side, there is no problem. The trend is rather mild for January and February.

In January 2023, temperatures of +1 to +2°C will be observed in France. This would even be a notch higher in February 2023, possibly exceeding +2°C in the east of France. Be careful, however, to keep in mind that the long-term trends are smoothed averages. In fact, a month warmer than normal does not prevent one or two cold spells from slip between mild abnormalities. So be careful all the same.
