Elizabeth II is 96 years old, the palace shares a sublime photo for her birthday

The sovereign celebrates her 96th birthday on April 21. The palace shares on this occasion an unpublished snapshot.

‘Happy Birthday Her Majesty’ tweeted the Palace yesterday, Wednesday, getting a head start, sharing a photograph of the Sovereign taken last month in the grounds of Windsor Castle. The queen, who will officially celebrate her seventieth year of reign in June, poses majestically in a sharp khaki green gabardine with her usual colorful outfits, surrounded by two white horses. A passion for horse riding, which she has had since her young years.

No public appearance

Weakened in recent months, the queen, who contracted Covid 19 last February and missed several official outings, planned to spend this day in complete privacy and will not appear publicly. She will celebrate this day “in a private way”, a spokeswoman for Buckingham Palace told AFP. However, as required by protocol, cannons will be fired from the Tower of London and Hyde Park to mark this anniversary date.

Ascended to the throne on February 6, 1952, at the age of 25, Elizabeth II will officially celebrate her platinum jubilee from June 2 to 5.

In the meantime, the queen is already greeted by her family on this anniversary day. “We wish Her Majesty the Queen a very happy 96th birthday today!” Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton shared on the networks.

A message in which his grandson and the Duchess of Cambridge did not fail to pay tribute to him evoking “a source of inspiration for so many people across the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and the world”.
