Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache lift a corner of the veil on their new comedy

“We are going to return to pure, Italian comedy, which speaks of our time”, explains to the weekly Olivier Nakache. “We are at a tipping point. We wrote something, a dance between ideas, about people who wander between overconsumption and decline, sobriety and over-indebtedness. With always associations, a world that fascinates us.

Influenced by Covid

The Covid strongly influenced the writing of this new social comedy, which seems in line with Crisis by Coline Serreau. “We talked about the ‘world after’, but that does not exist, since the world after is ultimately only the world before,” analyzes Eric Toledano.

“Everyone has been trying to find meaning. With stores and theaters closed, planes grounded, the green discourse has gained prominence.”

A difficult year is the eighth feature film by Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache. Out of Standardstheir last film, was in October 2019. They have since dedicated the past two years to directing the two seasons of the series. In therapywhose second season will be broadcast on from March 30.
