ESC 2023: ARD sensation! NRW fans can celebrate

It’s getting exciting. From May 9th to 13th this year, the “Eurovision Song Contest 2023” (ESC for short) will take place in Liverpool. Actually, the contest should have taken place in the Ukraine, but the cruel Russian war of aggression does not allow for a celebration of joy in the embattled country. And so last year’s second-placed Englishmen stepped in. But who will start for Germany in the British port city?

So far, ARD and NDR are still covered when it comes to the selection of potential candidates. One thing is clear so far: on Friday (January 27, 2023) the artists who will be able to prove themselves in the preliminary round for Germany will be announced. The final starter for Liverpool is then determined from them.

ESC preliminary decision in Cologne with fans

And it is now also clear when the German preliminary round, which ARD will broadcast under the title “Unser Lied für Liverpool”, will be shown. On March 3rd, the MMC studios in Cologne will be all about sausages. Under the watchful eyes of moderator Barbara Schöneberger, it will then be decided who will represent Germany in England.

A great thing for the city of Cologne. After all, the ESC has a not inconsiderable reputation. But it gets even better: Fans will also be able to attend the German preliminary round, as the NDR announced when asked by this editor. However, it is still unclear when the tickets will go on sale.

And who will be on stage on March 3rd? One of the favorites to take part in the German preliminary round is definitely Ikke Hipgold. He had aggressively applied for the ESC with his song “Lied mitgutes Text”. Is he there? The man, whose real name is Matthias Distel, has not been allowed to reveal that so far. In an official ARD TikTok video, in which ESC viewers sometimes cryptically describe the participating songs, an older lady says: “If the lyrics are good in a song, the song is really good for me.” Wave the fence post? So the party hit fans can hope.
