For $ 500 million: Pink Floyd licenses could be sold

A gigantic deal is emerging in the music world: the rights to the complete works of the British rock band Pink Floyd could change hands for around half a billion dollars. According to information from the “Financial Times”, Warner Music and the German music label BMG are interested in buying the Pink Floyd licenses.

Accordingly, the sale could reach a value of over 500 million dollars – and possibly even exceed the previous record sum of 550 million dollars that Sony Music paid last year, according to US media, for the complete works of US singer Bruce Springsteen.

Deals worth millions are becoming more and more common

In recent years, the music rights to the complete works of music stars have been sold more and more frequently. According to media reports, hundreds of millions of dollars were paid for the music rights by David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Sting and Tina Turner.

The progressive rock band Pink Floyd, founded in 1965 and disbanded in 2015, is one of the most successful groups in music history with titles such as “Money”, “Wish You Were Here” and “Comfortably Numb”. According to the site bestsellingalbums.org Pink Floyd has sold over 250 million records worldwide.
