FESTIVAL – This wikén the roads lead to the city of eternal spring for the 8th Cidreño Typical Festival, from Friday to Sunday in the public square of Cidra, with artisans, agricultural fair, picas and troubadour contest. The musical presentations will be in charge of Pirulo y la Tribu, A Son de Guerra, Odilio González, Douglas Candelario, Pepe Ríos and the Orquesta la Mancha, among others.
DRUMS – The Plaza del Quinto Centenario in Old San Juan will be the stage for the 10th Encuentro de Tambores, this Sunday from 12:00 pm Over 250 barrel players, singers and dancers will gather to resume this celebration of the Puerto Rican bomba. The meeting will be dedicated to Ramón “Papo” Alers Ponce and will be in memory of Cristina Alfonso Mangual, both masters of the Afro-Boricua tradition and practitioners of the Mayagüez bomb.
MUSIC – The Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico celebrates the XXIV edition of the International Percussion Festival, in memory of the percussionist and stronghold of plena Héctor “Tito” Matos. The event will be this Friday and Saturday at the Conservatory Theater and combines master classes with presentations. The master classes will be given by Thomas Burritt, Henry Cole, Marien Torres, Héctor Rodríguez, Emanuel Dufrasne, Enrique Chávez and David Marcano. Both nights of the festival will close with concerts. Workshops and master classes are free and concert tickets are available at TicketCenter.
CAREERS – This Saturday is the Dragon Boat Race in Laguna de Condado. The races of these wooden boats, originating from China and propelled by oars, will be divided by category for the participating local and international clubs and community races. The activities begin at 7:00 am in Jaime Benítez Park, in Condado.
CONCERT – The instrumental music group Tarah returns to the Santurce Fine Arts Center on Saturday at 8:00 pm The sextet, which defines its style as a fusion between the genres of instrumental pop and World Music, brings its new show Huemans to the Carlos Marichal Experimental Room. THEATER – The dramatic comedy Torcidas is presented from Friday to Sunday at the Braulio Castillo Theater in Bayamón, as part of the Women’s Theater Festival. Written by Catherine Trieschmann, it follows 14-year-old Laura with a vivid imagination to write her own stories, inspired by her favorite books and authors. Tickets at PRTicket.
