Hayden Panettiere and Wladimir Klitschko have been separated for four years, and their seven-year-old daughter Kaya has been living with him in Ukraine ever since. Now the actress revealed why there was a breakup and explained that she has now sought help.

Like Panettiere now opposite”People” confessed that she underwent trauma therapy last year and went into hospital treatment. She had her first contact with drugs when she was 15, she reveals. Someone from the then child star’s team gave her “lucky pills” before she walked the red carpet or had interviews. She was clueless at the time, but that would pave the way for a long drug addiction:

“I had no idea this was not appropriate or what door would open for me when it came to my addiction.”

Especially after filming, her life got more and more out of control and with age, drugs and alcohol became something she could hardly live without.

The reason for the split with Klitschko

Her relationship with boxer Wladimir Klitschko began in 2009 and their daughter was born in 2014. But Hayden Panettiere suffered from severe postnatal depression and therefore did not want to see her daughter. She didn’t drink alcohol during pregnancy, but even more after that, she admitted. Again and again she secretly snuck away to drink, so that her relationship with Klitschko slowly broke up:

“He didn’t want to be near me, I didn’t want to be near me.”

She drank because it gave her at least a tiny moment of happiness, which ended in “a cycle of self-destruction.” Eventually, this culminated in her waking up daily shaking and only being able to function while under the influence of alcohol. When the relationship between her and Klitschko came to an end, Hayden Panettiere made the most difficult decision of her life and sent her daughter to her father:

“It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do, but I wanted to be a good mother to her — and sometimes that means letting her go.”

Liver failure, domestic violence and bright spots

The addiction then got worse and she was hospitalized with jaundice and liver failure. In addition, in the year of separation, the actress met a new man who was by no means good for her. There were several cases of domestic violence, but Panettiere always returned to him. It now seems as if she was able to gradually break away from him and is looking ahead:

“I don’t regret even the ugliest things that have happened to me. I feel incredibly fulfilled. And I feel like I have a second chance.”

In March, she founded Hoplon International, a charity that raises funds for Ukraine. She does this in close contact with her ex-partner Wladimir Klitschko, who also spoke about the war on her Instagram profile. And her acting career also seems to be blossoming again, soon she will be seen as Kirby Reed in the next “Scream” movie.
