“I did my part”: why Yannick Noah left France to become a village chief in Cameroon


Invited on a set, Yannick Noah confided in the motivations that led him to return to Cameroon and become chief of the village of his childhood.

In “The Meaning of Winning”the artist and sportsman, who has already spoken of the racism his young son is witnessing, returned to his journey, from the tennis courts to Etoudi, the village of his childhood, to which he returned more than a year.

Yannick Noah is very invested in his brand new life in Cameroon sincehe became the chief of this village located a few kilometers from Yaoundé. live on France 5the man of a thousand lives returned to this choice of life, which he defines as a kind of inheritance: “Dad sacrificed a good part of his life to preserve this place. It is the place where the whole family lived and grew up, and that for several generations”he said on the set of It’s up to you.

For the artist, this new role is a way to pay tribute to his parents, who died a few years ago, and to prepare for the future of future generations: “For my children but also my grandchildren”he explained. “If I see them walking around this place, I would have done my part of the job”he confided with great emotion.

Yannick Noah on his new duties as chef: “I felt like a call”

This project, which was close to his heart, was also his father’s dream.the former Franco-Cameroonian footballer Zacharie Noah, who had always dreamed that his eldest son “don’t stay abroad too long” and “let him come back”: “This year, I felt like a call, an obvious desire to go back to where I grew up and to spend a lot of time improving this place, to make it a magical place if possible”he said about his father with whom he has always been very close.
