ICP opens call to participate in the Campechada literary contest

The Institute of Puerto Rican Culture (ICP) announced this Monday that it opened a call to participate in the Literary Contest in the 10th edition of Campechada, which will be in honor of Don Ricardo Alegría.

Interested persons have until October 15 to participate in this call. The purpose of the contest is to recognize the talent and creativity of our students, giving them an opportunity to apply writing skills and delve into the work of Don Ricardo Alegría and his contribution to Puerto Rican culture.

The short story category of the contest is geared toward students in first through fifth grade. Meanwhile, the poetry category is for students in grades six through eight and grades nine through twelve.

Participants must identify their work with a pseudonym or slogan on the first page of their literary work. In this way, the jury will not see the real names of the participants in the evaluation process.

In the poetry category, the works must be between two to eight double-spaced stanzas. The poems should not exceed two pages. Each category will have multiple topics from which you can select one or more. On the other hand, in the short story category, the works may be up to two pages long without illustrations. The home page with the pseudonym or slogan does not count as part of the text. For both lines, Times New Roman 12 must be used, on 8 ½ x 11 letter size pages.

The jury will evaluate the works and will announce the winners to the Campechada Contest Committee on November 8 and they will be recognized during the opening of the Campechada, on November 19.

La Campechada celebrates its tenth edition from November 19 to 21 in Old San Juan and is inspired by the humanist Dr. Ricardo E. Alegría Gallardo. In addition, of the ten years of Campechada, the event coincides with the celebration of the centenary of Alegría Gallardo and the 500 years of the founding of the city of San Juan, completing a triple celebration.
