As the country experiences a rebound in Covid-19 cases, will the mask make a comeback? Asked about this in the 19:45 of M6, this Wednesday March 23, Emmanuel Macron made it known that he did not exclude any track and that he would take “his responsibilities” when the time comes.
The Covid-19 epidemic is experiencing a slight rebound in France. In its daily report unveiled this Wednesday, March 23, Public Health France reported 145,560 infections in 24 hours. Faced with these figures, is the government considering a return to wearing a compulsory mask? In the evening, Emmanuel Macron was precisely questioned on this subject on the set of 19:45 of M6. “I will be very transparent with you, if things were to go downhill, and even during the election, the president that I am will take responsibility and do what is necessary to protect in a proportionate way“, assured the one who is a candidate for re-election.
Facing Xavier de Moulins, the President of the Republic defended himself from having relaxed the health restrictions for electoral reasons. “You know, people said that I also toughened things up for election reasons, I heard everything. Neither the Covid, nor the war in Ukraine, the President of the Republic can choose it“, he claimed. “I had a compass: protect our compatriots and do it in a proportionate way (…) It was going down, so let go, because we are also all vaccinated with the booster. We kept the mask in transport, because we know that we are more packed and that it is more at risk. We kept it, with the pass, in hospitals and institutions for the elderly”he detailed on the set of the 19:45.
Emmanuel Macron sends a message to the most fragile
The husband of Brigitte Macron took advantage of addressing this subject to appeal to the most vulnerable who would not yet be vaccinated: “We relaunch the additional dose, a reminder, for the most vulnerable“, he specified, and to add: “I also call on all the most vulnerable, either because they have risk factors, or the oldest among us to make a reminder.” And the President of the Republic to sum up: “It’s the best way to protect yourself.” The message has passed, it remains to be seen whether it will be heard.
