instagram or this social network by which everyone is caught. Launched in 2010, it was initially considered a photo application where it was possible to add filters to snapshots. Today, the platform has become a profession for some, for others it is their favorite application. Even if it means spending hours on it, too many hours… To limit its use and invite users to focus, Instagram has launched a new silent mode. The principle is simple: in the application settings, just click on “Notification” and activate the feature. Once this is done, no more notifications will be sent to the user. Their activity status will report that they are “in calm mode”. L’application will then send an automatic response to users who attempt to contact the person in question through the application. The activation of this feature will also be indicated on the user’s profile with the mention “In Quiet Mode”, preceded by a small crescent moon symbol.
It’s possible to customize silent mode times, but once the feature is turned off, Instagram will share a quick review of missed notifications. “When the feature is off, we show you a quick summary of notifications so you can catch up on what you missed,” says Meta.
Instagram is particularly inviting teenagers to use this new mode, after noticing excessive use of the application by 13-17 year olds during the night.
This “quiet mode” is now available in the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, but Instagram hopes to make it available to many more countries “as soon as possible”. France should therefore soon be able to switch to “Quiet Mode”.
