Winona Ryder and David Harbour can be seen in the fantasy series “Stranger Things” as Joyce Byers and Jim Hopper. In the fourth season of the Netflix production, the two series characters kiss for the first time after years of sexual tension. In the last episode of the season, there is a surprise for fans of the series team in the form of another kiss – which, as it turns out, was not planned at all.
The kissing scene between Joyce and Hopper was not scripted
Beware, spoilers: In the season 4 finale of “Stranger Things,” which aired on Netflix on Friday, July 1, Joyce grapples with memories of Bob’s (Sean Astin) death. Her then-boyfriend helped her escape from a Demogorgon, but was mauled by the creature in the process. Hopper reassures Joyce that things are different now and gives her a tender kiss.
But as it has now become known, the said kissing scene was not planned according to the script. It was entirely improvised by Ryder and Harbour. The ‘Stranger Things’ writers’ Twitter account shared the sweet fact: “That kiss wasn’t scripted, Winona and David added it on the day of filming.”
