Kanye West could be denied access to Australian soil

While rapper Kanye West is reportedly considering visiting Australia, he may not get his entry visa due to his anti-Semitic remarks, according to Australia’s education minister.

Persona non grata. The multiple anti-Semitic remarks made by Kanye West in recent months could prevent the rapper, also known as Ye, from entering Australian soil. This was said by Education Minister Jason Clare yesterday Wednesday in an interview with Australian media Channel Nine, reported by Reuters. “People like this who have applied for visas to enter Australia in the past have been turned down,” he said, calling the artist’s remarks “horrible.”

After having multiplied anti-Semitic messages last October on the networks, the rapper reiterated in December by sharing his admiration for Hitler and the Nazis on the set of the program “Infowars”.

But while the artist is reportedly planning to travel to Australia to meet the family of his new girlfriend Bianca Sensorithe government could therefore take the decision to refuse him his visa.

A ban advocated by several figures

As former immigration minister Peter Dutton, now leader of the opposition, recalled on 3AW, “the minister has the ability to prevent someone from entering our country with bad morals”. Strongly condemning the artist’s words and behavior, which he considered “shameful” and “appalling”, he specified that his “inclination would be not to let him in”, also stressing that Kanye West “is not not a person of good character”.

A ban on access also pleaded by Peter Wertheim, co-director general of the Executive Council of the Australian Jewish community, who met with government officials on Tuesday.

Kanye West would not be the first to be refused a visa for not meeting the criteria of good character. Several far-right figures have already been banned from Australian soil, such as British conspirator David Icke in 2019 and founder of far-right group Proud Boys Gavon McInnes in 2018.

For the time being, Kanye West has not reacted.
