Marilyn Monroe wore the dress when she sang a birthday song to John F. Kennedy in 1962.
Reality star Kim Kardashian (41) claims to have walked the red carpet at the Met Gala in an original dress by Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962). The actress wore it while singing a birthday song to then-US President John F. Kennedy in 1962.
When she tried on the dress, she initially didn’t like it, Kardashian said on the red carpet at Monday night’s event. She then had to lose around seven kilograms. “I don’t think they believed I could do it, but I did it.”
Kardashian wore a white jacket over the beige sparkling dress, and she had also dyed her hair platinum blonde – also based on Monroe. The original dress was auctioned several times and now belongs to a chain of curiosities museums, reported the fashion magazine “Vogue”, whose publisher is co-hosting the Met Gala. Kardashian only wore it for the red carpet walk and then changed her clothes to avoid damaging the dress.
party of the year
At Kardashian’s side, her new boyfriend, comedian Pete Davidson, showed up in a black suit. “She wouldn’t let me put my hat on with the propeller on, but that’s okay,” Davidson joked. Kardashian said she’s looking forward to the post-Met Ball party. “I haven’t eaten carbs or sugar in three weeks – when we get back to the hotel there’s a pizza and donut party.”
Often dubbed the “Party of the Year,” the Met Ball is an annual fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute. The annual budget of the institute, which is now named after Vogue boss Anna Wintour, is estimated at several million dollars from the “Costume Institute Benefit”. Because of the corona pandemic, the gala, which traditionally takes place on the first Monday in May, had to be canceled twice in a row and was then finally made up for in September 2021 – for the opening of the fashion exhibition “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion”. With the gala on Monday, the second part of the exhibition was opened – “In America: An Anthology of Fashion”.
