list of nominees, date, presenter, French films… All about the ceremony

A few weeks before the big Oscars night, the list of nominees has just been unveiled. Who is in the running to be crowned best actor and best actress? Is a French film one of the nominees this year? Here’s everything you need to know about the 95th edition of the ceremony…

Last year, the Oscars made headlines… but not necessarily for its prestigious track record! The slap from Will Smith given to Chris Rock had hit the headlines and the actor was even deprived of a ceremony for the next decade. This year, it’s about restoring the image of the most glamorous evening of the year, which brings together the crème de la crème of international cinema, the most fabulous looks and the most anticipated red carpets. Here’s what you need to know about the 95th Academy Awards.

Where and when is the 2023 Oscars ceremony?

The 95th Academy Awards are due to take place on March 12, 2023, at the Dolby Theater, Los Angeles.

Who presents the 2023 Oscars?

This year, it is the famous American animator jimmy kimmel which will host the Oscars. This is the third time he will host the evening. This year, the role is all the more delicate since for the previous edition, Chris Rock, who then presented the Oscars, had been slapped on stage by Will Smith after making a joke about the shaved head of the wife of this one, suffering from alopecia.

Jimmy Kimmel will therefore try not to make waves this year. The goal? Do not further damage the image of this prestigious ceremony. “Being invited to present the Oscars for the third time is either a great honor or a trap (…) Either way, I’m grateful to the Academy for offering me so quickly after everyone said no.“Jimmy Kimmel joked in a statement.

Which films are on track to take it all?

This year, four feature films are vying for the triumph at the Oscars. With 11 nominations, the film Everything Everywhere All at Once, directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, made the strongest impression. But its competitors have nothing to be ashamed of: these are films HAS the West, nothing newby Edward Berger, The Banshees of Inisherin, by Martin McDonagh, with 9 nominations each, and the biopic Elvis, by Baz Luhrmann, with 8 nominations.

Which French films are nominated for the 2023 Oscars?

This year, no French film was nominated for the Oscars. The only candidate of this edition, the film Saint Omerby Alice Diop, did not pass the preselections stage. For three years in a row, no French film has been nominated for the category of best foreign film. Since 1948, France has been named 39 times in this category. A record! France has won the precious Grail no less than 9 times, the best score just behind Italy with 11 awards. Despite everything, the last time that a French film was awarded the Oscar for best foreign film was in 1993 with Indochina by Régis Wargnier, worn by Catherine Deneuve and Vincent Perez.
