Madonna wants to meet Pope Francis. The singer said she would like a second chance to arrange the things close two decades after the Vatican has condemned her “blasphemous” behavior, swearing that she is none other than “a good Catholic”.
“Hello Pope Francis – I am a good catholic. I swear ! I mean I don’t swear“, has tweeted Madonna to the Pope. “It’s been decades since I last confessed. Would it be possible to meet one day to discuss of some important topics?“.
“I was ex-communicated 3 times. It doesn’t seem right.“
As a reminder, the pop star came under fire from the Catholic Church following her controversial 2006 show in Rome, during which she was “crucified” on stage. At the time, Cardinal Ersilio Tonini spoke with the approval of Pope Benedict XVI, declaring that the “queen of pop” had gone “too far”, calling her act “blasphemous”.
“To crucify oneself during the concert in the city of popes and martyrs is an act of open hostility. It’s nothing but a scandal and an attempt to generate publicity“, declared the cardinal at the time, according to the Standard whose remarks were relayed by Page Six.
“The time will come when this woman will realize that Christ died on the cross for her too, that he shed his blood for her. I feel pity for her“.
Madonna has previously mentioned that she was raised as a Catholic and has opened up about her relationship with religion, calling it “funny” in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar.
“I like to provoke, it’s in my DNA. But nine times out of ten, there’s a reason for it.”she confided to the magazine in 2013, specifying that she was notshe”s a big fan of the rules“.
The pope has yet to respond to Madonna’s request.
