Michael Wendler: success in court

A private filmmaker had made Michael Wendler’s place of residence public. The hit star then took legal action.

Pop singer Michael Wendler has successfully obtained an injunction against a private filmmaker who has published the address of his new home in the USA. As a spokeswoman for the Bonn district court announced on Thursday, the filmmaker posted a video on a social network seven weeks after the former RTL star and his wife moved into a new villa in Florida in the summer of 2022. In it he shows the Wendlers’ new property, commented unfriendly on it and finally revealed the location.

The publication of the private address in the video violates the plaintiff’s right to informational self-determination, the reasoning says. The 50-year-old justified his request for an injunction by saying that, among other things, he had moved so that he would not be constantly bothered by the press and the public. Since the said video was online, however, he and his wife were increasingly besieged by visitors who filmed the property or rang the bell.

Michael Wendler initially asked the filmmaker out of court to withdraw the video. However, when the opponent did not react, he went to court. Now the filmmaker faces a fine of up to 250,000 euros in the event of an infringement.
