Netflix: here are the first images of Athena, the new event film by Romain Gavras

Busy comeback for Netflix. In addition to Blonde hair by Andrew Dominik, the sulphurous film on Marilyn Monroe with Ana de Armas, the streaming platform will unveil in September Athenathe highly anticipated new feature film by Romain Gavras (The world is yours). The French director returns with an extremely ambitious project, co-written with Ladj Ly (Wretched). A “tragedy”, as the trailer promises, shot in Évry-Courcouronnes, on the borders of social film and war film.

The story ofAthena is that of a city that explodes after the death of a young man in troubled circumstances. One of his brothers, played by Sami Slimane, decides to lead the revolt to obtain justice and revenge. “I wanted to start from a situation of fire, to decline it on several levels. The film thus tells of an intimate conflagration – a sibling which implodes following the death of the youngest brother – but this conflagration also explodes a district, which will lead France to the brink of rupture”, explains Romain Gavras in the columns of First.

Alongside Sami Slimane, a very nice cast: Dali Benssalah, recently seen in Dying can wait, Anthony Bajon, Alexis Manenti or even Ouassini Embarek. The first images promise a show worthy of the great ambitions of Romain Gavras. Still a few weeks to wait before discovering the final result on Netflix, which should generate many reactions.
