Netflix officially announces the release of Squid Game 2 and the return of several characters from season 1

Immediately after its release on Netflix in 2021, Squid Game had a huge success. The enthusiasm had been such that the first season had generated a record number of views (more than a billion hours of viewing) and almost 40 times the budget that the platform had invested in its creation. Those who were eagerly awaiting the sequel to the South Korean series featuring a game of death where 456 people in debt can win millions can rejoice: Netflix will host the long-awaited second season “soon”. It will once again be entrusted to director Hwang Dong-hyuk who has announced the return of certain characters.

Netflix broke the news this weekend on Twitter with a visual of the killer doll from the game “1,2,3 Sun” and a message from the director. “It took 12 years to create the first season of Squid Game, but it only took twelve days to become Netflix’s most popular series. As a writer, director and producer, I want to thank fans around the world. Thank you for watching and liking our series,” Hwang Dong-hyuk wrote. The director also promised the return of main character Seong Gi-hun and Hwang In-ho, the masked agent. “You will also be introduced to Young-hee’s boyfriend, Cheol-su,” announces Hwang Dong-Hyuk. Things therefore seem to be materializing for the director who had recently confided that he only had “three pages of ideas” for the screenplay of Squid Game 2. He had also announced that the mortal trials will once again be part of the plot.
