Netflix will soon part ways with one of Johnny Depp’s greatest films. Released in 2009, Public Enemies is inspired by the true story of bank robber John Dillinger, which has spawned several other feature films. That of Michael Mann relied on an incredible cast composed, among others, of Johnny Depp, Marion Cotillard and Christian Bale. Johnny Depp plays the main character and forms a magnetic couple with Marion Cotillard, who plays his girlfriend Billie Frechette. At the time of the film’s release, the director said according to Allocinated that Johnny Depp shared a lot in common with his character: “When we started talking about Public Enemies, he revealed to me that he had been interested in Dillinger for a long time and that he reminded him of certain characters from his past. I felt there was something Dillinger in him”.
The synopsis of Public Enemies says: “Based on the true story of John Dillinger, an outstanding bank robber who plagued 1930s America on numerous occasions. John Edgar Hoover, Dillinger will be hunted down relentlessly by Melvin Purvis, one of the most effective federal agents”.
Public Enemies is to be seen or reviewed on Netflix before June 30.
