Oscar Awards 2022: These are the favorites to win in the most important categories


Mexico.- On the night of this Sunday, March 27, the 94th edition of the Oscar awardsin which several Mexicans will be present in various categories, and although Eugenio Derbez not directly nominated CODA, the film in which he acts is one of the favorites for the most important award.

Best film

Although the films that lead the nominations are The Power of the Dog with 12, Dune with 10, in addition to Belfast and West Side Story with seven each, CODA has surprised in several installments of previous awards, for which it has emerged as one of favorites for Best Picture.

CODA, directed by Sian Heder, has won in the main categories of several pre-Oscar galas, took the most important award, the best ensemble, in the awards of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and was the best film according to the Union of Producers (PGA), although at the BAFTA gala, the Critics’ Choice and the Golden Globes the one that took the main recognition was The power of the dog.

In this 94th edition of the Academy Awards, Jessica Chastain is the favorite for her performance in The Eyes Of Tammy Faye, triumphing at the SAG and the Critic’s Choice, although at the Golden Globes it was Nicole Kidman who won the statuette.

Best Supporting Actor

Here it seems that there will be no surprises, since Troy Kotsur, from the movie CODA, has won almost all the recognitions of the awards season, the SAG, the Independent Spirit, the Critics’ Choice and the BAFTA; he only lacked the Golden Globe.

If he wins the Oscar, he will be the second deaf actor to achieve it, since Marlee Matlin, cast partner in the film CODA, was already a winner in 1986 with the film Children of a lesser god.

In this category, the surprise would be that Ariana DeBose did not win, for her role as Anita in West Side Story, since she has won all the awards: SAG, Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice and BAFTA.
