First came one rejection after the other, but Kerstin Ott didn’t let her head hang. Today it is impossible to imagine the big hit shows without it.

Heide – she turned the pop world upside down! Kerstin Ott (40) revolutionized the dusty industry with her catchy hit “The always laughs”. Despite this, after her successful debut, she did not appear on television for a long time. Short hair, tattoos and a boyish appearance – TV producers apparently didn’t know what to do with the openly lesbian pop singer. As Ott now revealed in an interview with the Süddeutsche Zeitung, she initially received one unfriendly rejection after another.

A production worker even dared to make a particularly derogatory statement. He is said to have said to Kerstin: “Hey, sorry, I can also put an oil drum on the stage and put a guitar around it.” The station employee certainly deeply regrets this comment today. Because the passionate pop singer didn’t give up and today her songs are regularly at the top of the charts. And Kerstin Ott is also an integral part of the relevant television programs.

Kerstin Ott didn’t give up despite the many rejections – and her perseverance paid off

However, Kerstin Ott didn’t let that get her down and continued. Although her first album was not promoted in any TV format, she achieved huge success in 2016 with “Herzwohner”. “We thought I’d become so well known, at some point they’re going to have to invite me onto the TV shows. You can’t get around me,” says the hit star about the difficult early days in conversation with the reporters. And she turned out to be right: The first TV inquiries came in only a short time after the premiere of the record.

And the tone of the responsible production managers suddenly became friendlier, as Kerstin continues to report. A TV producer even introduced himself to her with the words “I’m the one who always didn’t want you”. With her perseverance, the singer proved once again that the world of hits has to be open to change.
