Prince Albert has Corona: does he miss Charlène’s birthday?

Princess Charlene of Monaco turns 45 on Wednesday. Your birthday may be spent without your husband – because he has a positive test.

Just a few days ago, Prince Albert of Monaco appeared at the International Circus Festival and at the after-party of the “Fight Aids Cup 2023” charity football game. But in the coming days, the prince’s appointment calendar is likely to empty a bit: The 64-year-old has contracted the corona virus – for the third time. The palace announced this on Tuesday and at the same time warned: “He is symptom-free and his state of health gives absolutely no cause for concern.”

Prince Albert II is working remotely and is in constant contact with members of his cabinet, his government and his closest associates, the statement said. The period of isolation will be adapted to the applicable health regulations.

Nevertheless, the infection comes at the worst possible time: Today, Wednesday, is Albert’s wife Charlène’s birthday and she will be 45 years old. However, it is not known whether the Princess or their children, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, are also infected, and whether Prince Albert is isolated from the family.

Further appointments cancelled

According to the newspaper “Monaco Matin”, the Monegasque prince had to cancel his participation in the gala of the 45th International Circus Festival of Monte Carlo, which took place on Tuesday. He will also not preside over the celebrations of Saint Devote, the patron saint of Monaco, on Thursday and Friday in the Principality.

It is already the third corona infection for Prince Albert II. In March 2020, the royal became infected for the first time and was one of the first from the royal families to make his Covid 19 disease public. During the isolation he only had a slight fever and cough. But then, according to his own statements, he suffered from long-term effects for a long time: He had to struggle with recurring and sudden fatigue, he told the “People” magazine at the end of 2020. He tested positive a second time on April 13, 2022. However, this infection was less severe: Albert’s state of health gave no cause for concern, the Prince’s Palace said then and now. The prince is asymptomatic.
