Prince Harry accuses his brother William of throwing him to the ground during a fight in 2019

In an exclusive excerpt from Substitutethe highly anticipated autobiography of Prince Harry, obtained this Wednesday, January 5 by the Guardianthe latter recounts having fought with his brother William during an argument in 2019.

For several years, and especially since the Megxit, Princes Harry and William have distanced themselves from each other – literally and figuratively. A potential reconciliation does not seem to be on the agenda, given the recent revelations of the Guardian . The British daily has indeed obtained an extract from the autobiography of the Duke of Sussex, Spare (The Substituteto be published on Tuesday 10 January published by Fayard, in France). Said extract, published Thursday, January 5, reports on the alleged physical aggression of Prince William against his brother Harry during an argument in London in 2019.

In video, “Silence is betrayal”, says Prince Harry in an interview

In it, the Duke of Sussex recounts that Prince William called his wife Meghan Markle “difficult”, “rude” and “abrasive”. The tone would then be raised and the insults would have flared up. The altercation would have taken a serious turn when the two brothers would have come to blows. “(William) grabbed me by the collar, ripping my collar, and knocked me to the ground,” said the 38-year-old prince. Before adding: “I landed on the dog’s bowl, which broke under my back, the pieces cut into me”. Meghan Markle’s husband would have remained on the ground “stunned”, before asking his brother to leave.

Although William apologized, this fight would have left Prince Harry “scrapes and bruises”, he wrote in the excerpt revealed by The Guardian . If he recently claimed to want to “reconnect” with his father, King Charles III and his brother, this revelation could however compromise any chance of reconciliation.

“One of the biggest releases of 2023”

Since they cut ties with the British monarchy two years ago, and in a recent documentary series broadcast in early December on Netflix, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle publicly expose their grievances against the royal family. On Netflix, Harry did not spare his older brother, saying the latter “yelled” at him during a family reunion in 2020 attended by Elizabeth II. The Sussexes also accuse William and his wife Kate Middleton of being behind the negative coverage they received because they were “stealing the show” from the Cambridges.

One thing is certain, many are waiting for the publication of the Substitute. As reported BFM-TV it is “one of the biggest releases of 2023 in the English-speaking world, in the top 5 on Amazon in the UK and US, since it became available for pre-order.”
