Prince Harry: Deeply hurt by Charles III’s heartless paternity joke

Actually, the memoirs of Prince Harry (38) with the title “Spare” (in Germany “Reserve”) should not have been on sale until January 10, but due to a glitch, the book has already been sold in Spain. Since then, the global media has been overflowing with stories about the life of the 38-year-old, which should certainly not be received with goodwill by the British royals.

“Spare” can certainly be understood as Prince Harry’s reckoning with his family and the events behind the royal wall, some of which were many years ago.

The fact that these can now be read in his memoirs shows how much one or the other incident must have hurt him mentally.

In one passage of his book, the 38-year-old responds to a saying by his father, King Charles III, which is said to be in bad taste, and which is said to have fallen during a joint visit to the Broadmoor psychiatric clinic.

The then heir to the throne is said to have met a patient there who claimed he was the “Prince of Wales”. Charles is said to have raised his finger in front of the deranged man and repeated, “I am the Prince of Wales,” only for the man to “answer him with the same gesture.”

“Who knows if I’m even your real father?!

Then Charles is said to have turned to his son Harry and said “Who knows if I’m even your real father?! Maybe your real father is in Broadmoor, my dear son!”. Certainly thought of as a joke, albeit worse, by the present-day King at the time, it seems to have hurt Harry’s feelings. Especially that Charles was always happy to tell this anecdote.

As the British newspaper “Daily Mail” reports, Harry also wants to use his memoirs to put an end to rumors that he is not Charles’ son.

Even as a young boy, Harry was confronted with these accusations. The rumor persisted that Harry was actually the son of riding instructor James Hewitt (64), with whom Harry’s mother Diana had a long affair between 1986 and 1991 – which Princess Di also confirmed in the notorious interview with journalist Martin Bashir.

Above all, the striking resemblance between Harry and the red-haired Hewitt gave rise to claims that not Charles III but Officer James Hewitt was Harry’s real father.

Although Princess Diana is said to have started the affair with Hewitt almost two years after Harry’s birth, the rumors persist.
