Prince Harry’s memoirs haven’t even been officially published yet, so the book is already causing a lot of fuss. The Guardian had leaked a copy of Spare and revealed that Harry described a heated argument between him and William in it. According to Harry’s account, the brothers got into fisticuffs and he himself was injured.
And it’s not the only glitch surrounding the release of “Spare”. In Spain, the book was already available in some stores, a full five days ahead of the official release date. As a result, more and more details about “Spare” are becoming known, before which the royals are said to tremble so much. Harry is said to have dedicated the book not only to his wife Meghan and his children Archie and Lilibet, but also to his late mother Princess Diana.

According to everything that is known so far, Harry actually uses his book to really settle accounts with his family. His brother William, in particular, is anything but good, not only because of the dispute that the Duke of Sussex describes. Harry also blames William for an incident that made huge headlines years ago.

In 2005, Harry and William were invited to a costume party. The motto: “native and colonist”. While William opted for a self-made leopard costume, Harry appeared dressed as a Nazi – including a swastika armband.
A few weeks ago, Harry apologized extensively for the incident in his Netflix documentary. “It was perhaps one of the biggest mistakes of my life. I was so ashamed afterwards. I just wanted to make it up to you,” said the Duke of Sussex a good 17 years later. Harry also said at the time that he then went to Berlin and spoke to Holocaust survivors. “I could have just ignored it and made the same mistakes over and over again in my life. But I learned from it.”
In “Spare” Harry picks up the story again and provides more details. He reveals that he didn’t make the decision to wear the Nazi costume. According to the Daily Mail, Harry writes in Spare:
“I called Willy and Kate and asked them what they thought. Nazi uniform, they said.”
Before they went to the party together, Harry tried on the costume in front of his brother and Princess Kate, who William was already dating there. “They both cried with laughter. Worse than William’s jersey outfit. Way more ridiculous. And of course that was the point again,” writes Harry.

Not the first allegations against William
Harry’s blaming his older brother for things that go wrong in his life isn’t new. In his Netflix documentary, Harry had already spoken at length about the fact that Williams’ press office had passed on information about him to the media in order to harm him. But when Harry addressed his scandalous appearance at the theme party in the documentary, there was no talk of his brother.
Some are very critical of Harry’s latest attacks on his brother. “It’s odd because you’d think Harry would take responsibility for it and just move on and not implicate his brother, but he makes it clear that he has very strong feelings about William’s role in the scandal,” says a source environment of the publishing house the portal “Page Six”.
But: This version of the story is not completely new either. As the site further reports, author Robert Lacey wrote in his book “Battle of Brothers” in 2020 that Harry “chosen the costume together with his brother”. So now Harry has officially confirmed this version of events.
