Schlager duo Judith and Mel need help after the fire

The musicians’ garage burned out completely, their house can hardly be entered. But Judith and Mel can count on the support of their colleagues.

Shock on New Year’s Eve: Suddenly the garage of the hit duo Judith and Mel (“The Golden Years”) caught fire. A short circuit had triggered a fire, the 79-year-old reported to the German Press Agency. From there, the smoke moved into the attached residential building, which is currently no longer habitable due to the damage. “Everything smells of smoke,” says the musician.

The couple experienced a lot of solidarity after the fire: Chris Andrews, the Wildecker Herzbuben and others would have offered them accommodation. “We have the greatest colleagues in the industry,” said Judith of the dpa. For the time being, the two stayed with one of their daughters. Not an easy time for the musicians, who are known from programs such as the “Grand Prix der Volksmusik”, “Always Sundays” and the “Musikantenstadl”. Nevertheless, the hit duo is happy: “We both stayed intact, and that’s the most important thing.”

Judith fought for her life

Judith and Mel, whose real names are Kristina Barbara and Eberhard Karl Alfons Jupe, have been married for more than 50 years. The two have two daughters and have been on stage together since 1990. Mel was previously successful as a solo artist and composed hits for Lena Valaitis, Roy Black, Stefan Mross, Florian Silbereisen and other artists. As a duo they had some initial difficulties, but the breakthrough came and with it many awards and TV appearances.
