Sequel to mega blockbuster
First trailer for “Avatar 2” released

The film “Avatar” is the most successful in history. But it takes around 13 years for a sequel to hit the cinemas. Walt Disney is now giving a foretaste with a teaser trailer. It becomes clear that “Avatar 2” is in no way inferior to its predecessor in terms of visual bombast.

Sci-fi fans can finally get a glimpse of moving footage from the long-awaited sequel to the blockbuster Avatar. Walt Disney Studios has released the first teaser trailer for Avatar: The Way of Water. The approximately one-and-a-half minute clip provides a first glimpse into the new adventures of Jake Sully’s (Sam Worthington) and his Neytiri’s (Zoe Saldana) family.

According to Disney, the action takes place more than a decade after the events of the first film, with which star director James Cameron wrote cinema history at the time. The viewers can therefore expect a new exciting story from the Na’vi couple, who have now had several children. Jake and Neytiri must once again fight and deal with dramatic experiences in part two in order to survive and protect their family. “One thing I know: wherever we go, this family is our fortress,” Jake addresses his great love at the end of the clip with a serious expression.

Joining the cast alongside Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthingto are Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang and Giovanni Ribisi, and newcomers include Kate Winslet, Vin Diesel and Michelle Yeoh. The teaser trailer for “Avatar 2” also indicates a continuation of the visual material battle of the first part. “Avatar – Aufbruch nach Pandora” caused astonishment with its animated effects and received three Oscars in the categories “Best Production Design”, “Best Camera” and “Best Visual Effects”.

Cameron began producing four “Avatar” films simultaneously in 2017. The planned film releases were postponed more often, most recently because of the corona pandemic. After “Avatar: The Way of Water” further parts are to appear in 2024, 2026 and 2028. The original production “Avatar – Aufbruch nach Pandora” (2009) is considered the most financially successful film in history with worldwide revenues of over 2.8 billion dollars. “Avatar: The Way of Water” will start in German cinemas on December 14, 2022.
