On the last day of 2022, WDR will be showing a New Year’s Eve special with a top-class cast. The film “Kurzschluss” shows two of Germany’s most successful actors together in front of the camera for the first time.
As the name suggests, the WDR New Year’s Eve film is a short film. The film will flicker across the screens for just 30 minutes. That’s exactly what one of the actors doesn’t like at all.
“Kurzschluss”: New Year’s Eve special with Anke Engelke and Matthias Brandt
It is the first time that Anke Engelke and Matthias Brandt are working together. The actress is absolutely thrilled: “But the universe was kind to me when I shouted my wish list to heaven on New Year’s Eve a year ago: ‘Please play with Matthias Brandt at last!’ Please with the btf troupe work together!’ and ‘Please be part of a potential TV classic!’ – I still can’t believe that wishing really works.”
But her colleague Matthias Brandt has something to complain about in addition to the joy: “I’ve been looking forward to this shoot for ages and to finally being able to play with Anke Engelke, and then it was a short film of all things. So my anticipation was replaced almost seamlessly by the sadness that it was over after a few days. I didn’t think it was fair. I still don’t think it’s fair.”
“Kurzschluss”: That’s what the short film is about
The 30-minute film is about the mayor (Anke Engelke) of a small town, who enters the anteroom of a small bank branch to withdraw money. Suddenly the EC card jammed in the machine. At that moment, Martin (Matthias Brandt) comes in and wants to solve the problem at the ATM quickly: He fiddles with a hairpin in the card slot until there is a short circuit. In addition to the machine, the electronically secured door is also dead. The two are stuck and try in vain to get help.
The film “Kurzschluss” can be seen on December 30, 2022 from 5 p.m. in the ARD media library. Then at 11.30 p.m. in the first. The replay comes on December 31, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. WDR will show the short film on New Year’s Eve at 4:10 p.m.
