malnutrition and weight loss
That’s what the “jungle camp diet” does with the celebrities
Only 70 grams of rice and the same amount of beans are guaranteed to the “I’m a star – get me out of here” participants per day. Even contractually. But what can such a restrictive diet do to a celebrity body?

The jungle camp diet affects many of the prominent campers, such as Eric Stehfest, Anouschka Renzi and Harald Glööckler last year, mentally and physically.

Almost every celebrity who moves to the jungle camp leaves with a few kilos less. This is mainly due to the strict diet that the stars have to endure during the ten days in the bush. Even during the current season, which begins on January 13, 2023 at 9:15 p.m. on RTL, the participants are only guaranteed 70 grams of rice and 70 grams of beans. This is in the contracts of Lucas Cordalis (55), Verena Kerth (41), Claudia Effenberg (57) and Co.
With successful jungle tests, some vegetables and a little meat can be added. Not infrequently, jungle campers have visibly lost weight when they leave the camp. However, this crash diet is not recommended. Because it can cause damage over a long period of time, as “Bild” has analyzed. The calorific value of the daily rice and bean meal alone is only 500 kilocalories. On average, however, a healthy woman needs around 2,200 and a healthy man around 2,500 kilocalories.
Aggression and dangerous muscle breakdown
In addition, the jungle camp menu is very one-sided: it mainly contains carbohydrates, little protein and fiber. A healthy person can get through this malnutrition for a few days, but after a longer period of time iron and protein deficiencies occur, which in turn can lead to muscle breakdown and anemia, i.e. a reduction in the number of red blood cells. With a bit of luck, protein-rich kangaroo testicles and insect snacks can counteract this.
The constant hunger and the deficiencies do not only bring physical problems. The restrictive diet also affects the psyche of the prominent campers. After a few days of jungle cuisine, the stress hormones in the body increase, the stars can become listless and lethargic or aggressive and belligerent. Which has often caused drama around the campfire.
