Jeremy Renner was trying to save his nephew of being run over by a snowplow when the plow crushed the actor, according to an incident report from the Nevada sheriff’s office.
The interpreter was struck by his own 7-tonne Pistenbully snowplow on a street near his home in Lake Tahoe.
The star of “The Hurt Locker” (“Living on the edge”) did not activate the emergency brake of the machine after he used it to pull his nephew’s truck out of the snow, he noted CNN.
“The Pistenbully snow groomer began to slide, causing it to Renner got out of the vehicle without putting on the emergency brake.”reads the conclusion of the report.
“Although the machine had some mechanical problems, based on our mechanical inspection, it is believed that the parking brake would prevent the Pistenbully from moving forward,” they added.
“When Renner tried to stop or divert the snowplow to avoid injury to his nephew, he ended up under the vehicle and ran over it,” authorities in charge of the incident detailed.
The report also notes that the brake indicator light not working and that “heMechanical problems may have been a factor in this accident.”
Renner’s nephew helped him while they waited for medical help to arrive and he was airlifted to a trauma center. His representative confirmed at that time that he was in “critical but stable condition“and suffered”blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries” for which he underwent multiple surgeries.
In his first days in hospital, the actor posted a video of “a spa day” at the hospital as he recovered from a traumatic injury when he was struck by a heavy snowplow.

According to TMZ, the actor suffered from “extreme difficulty” breathing and was bleeding profusely from his head. The right side of his chest collapsed when his upper torso was crushed by the vehicle, according to a 911 record.
According to Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam, an investigation was underway into Renner’s “serious injuries,” including checks for any signs of mechanical failure. At a news conference, investigators said there was no indication that alcohol or drugs were involved in the incident, which was being treated as a “tragic accident”.
Renner, 52, returned home earlier this month after spending nearly two weeks in the hospital. He later revealed that he broke more than 30 bones in the accidentwhich happened on New Year’s Day.
“These more than 30 broken bones will be mended, strengthened, as love and bonds with family and friends deepen.”, he wrote next to a photo of himself in a hospital bed with a doctor stretching his leg.
“Much love to all of you,” he wrote.

He also said that the “morning exercises, the resolutions, everything changed this particular New Year … Derived from the tragedy for my entire family and quickly focused on uniting doable love.”
In response to a Twitter post about his Paramount+ TV series “Mayor of Kingstown,” Renner tweeted: “Recovering from my brain fog aside, I was so excited to watch episode 201 with my family at home..”
