The two luminaries of French cinema offered each other a moment of comfort on the stage of the Palais des Festivals, on the occasion of the closing ceremony which was held on Saturday 28 May.
The emotion was palpable, this Saturday, May 28, on the main stage of the Palais des Festivals. After two weeks of watching moving, exciting, “remarkable” films, the celebrities were on edge, all jostled to give the awards, like the characters they embody. Orchestrated by Virginie Efira, the 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival also gave the Palme d’Or to Swedish director Ruben Östlund for his film Triangle of Sadness a comedy about the class struggle.
But the most striking exchange was certainly during the presentation of the special prize, which set the tone for the evening. The actress Carole Bouquet was called on stage to hand over the coronation (won by Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne for Tori and Lokita), and urged the foreman of the jury, Vincent Lindon, to offer him a kiss. “I feel all alone… Vincent, don’t you want to come and kiss me?” whispered the 64-year-old actress, in a sober black dress in front of her desk. And to add: “After what happened … It was very moving, the kiss”. To which the actor replied: “Do I have to come?”, before getting up from his chair and coming to kiss him passionately. “You see, that’s the cinema!” outbid Carole Bouquet.

Kisses all night
Carole Bouquet was referring to another hug that happened minutes before she took the stage. Indeed, Belgian directors Charlotte Vandermeersch and Felix Van Groeningen, winners of the jury prize for The Eight Mountainscould not hide their joy at the time of receiving their coronation, giving each other a loving kiss in front of a conquered audience.
