“The Mayan Train is destroying the jungle”: Eugenio Derbez

In a video that Bárbara Mori shared on social networks, actors and singers such as Eugenio Derbez, Kate del Castillo, Fabiola Campomanes, Natalia Laofurcade, Rubén Albarrán, Sergiio Mayer Mori and Saúl Hernández demonstrate against the construction of the Mayan Train.

This megaproject of the federal government seeks to connect the tourist route that goes from Cancun to Palenque and in one of its sections it crosses Sac Actun, the largest cenote system in the world.

“They are cutting down hundreds, thousands of trees and there could be millions more,” says Kate del Castillo in one of the three videos that have been shared.

In the section from Playa de Carmen to Tulum, the train route puts the longest underground river system on the planet at risk.

“It is estimated that this system of rivers developed over 2 million years; we cannot destroy them, it would be impossible to recover them”, explains Bárbara Mori in her speech.

The activist Fernando Guadarrama and the singer of Café Tacvba, Rubén Albarrán, refer to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador: “We are not his adversaries, we are Mexicans and we want life for all of us.”

The actress Ofelia Medina, who on other occasions has expressed her support for the López Obrador government, also appears in the video: “We need to restore and respect the communities that have managed to maintain and sustain this place.”

Kate del Castillo insists: “President, listen to the experts.”

The video on Bárbara Mori’s account has generated a majority of supportive comments.
