The Nintendo Switch Pro will (finally) never see the light of day

Since its release in 2017, Nintendo Switch has established itself as a must-have console around the world. With the Switch Lite and the OLED, the range has diversified over the years, but a more powerful version to catch up with the PS5 and Xbox Serie X/S is still awaited. Or at least was waiting. According to the latest revelations from DigitalFoundrythe Nintendo Switch Pro would no longer be relevant for the Japanese firm.

Nintendo is already looking to the future

Long desired and actively requested by fans of the hybrid console of nintendo, the Switch Pro should never see the light of day. Anyway, that’s what it says DigitalFoundry, a media specializing in high-tech equipment, during a podcast in which its various members gathered. “From what I understood from discussions with developers, a mid-gen Switch update was well planned. But that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore,” John Lineman said simply, before adding that nintendo has given up this option in order to focus all its forces on another project: the next generation of consoles which will arrive in the next few years.

“I think at Nintendo, they are quite nervous on the subject, because the previous transitions between console generations have not gone very well”, also allows himself to comment on John Lineman. And there is reason, since since the Nintendo 64, the Japanese manufacturer has never managed to capitalize on the success of one of its consoles on the next generation, like the passage of the Wii to the Wii U which was catastrophic when you take a look at the sales. The Switch Having already barely passed halfway through its life cycle, according to the confidences of Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa, its succession is already in everyone’s mind and will be a crucial issue for the Japanese company.
