As usual, Elon Musk hit on Twitter. Just a few days after announcing that he was suspending his takeover of the social network, the owner of Space X and Tesla is picking up again with his humor full of irony… and sometimes mysterious. In a tweet published this Sunday, May 15, he seems to be attacking censorship once again, too present according to him on Twitter, by making fun of a famous portrait of Louis XIV. A tweet which, however, gives free rein to several interpretations, hence the very many reactions of Internet users.
Elon Musk kept advocating freedom of expression as one of the reasons for his takeover of Twitter. He continues in the same vein despite the suspension of the purchase and published a photo of the famous Portrait of Louis XIV in coronation costume painted by Hyacinthe Rigaud in the XVIIIè century and currently kept in the Louvre Museum. In this portrait, the Sun King appears with all his royal attributes and his scepter in his hand. But it is her attire that seems to have caught the attention of Elon Musk, who accompanied his post with the following comment: “Borderline too sexy”. Indeed, Louis XIV wears on this portrait his court dress composed, among other things, of silk stockings held by garters and heeled shoes qualified as “Great shoes” by Elon Musk.
This isn’t the first time the richest man in the world has made a reference to the Sun King. last February, he had already compared Mark Zuckerberg to a Louis XIV of social networks by his excessive control over public debate. “In terms of media ownership type, I mean, you have Mark Zuckerberg owning Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, and with a shareholding structure that will make Mark Zuckerberg XIV still control those entities,” had indeed said Elon Musk according to The Guardian. We better understand Elon Musk’s last post on Louis XIV, which did not fail to make Internet users react. They have indeed been more than 174,000 to like this post in almost 48 hours and the comments have rocketed. However, some Internet users have had other interpretations, sometimes detecting in the word “borderline” a reference to the trial between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp.
